This is a COMPANY LAW AND CAPITALISM (LLB) problem question; the Essay

This is a COMPANY LAW AND CAPITALISM (LLB) problem question; the question is on the assignment criteria field of this application form below - Essay Example and Boris are the executive Directors of the Company, but from the perspective of ownership of shares, it may be noted that Clarke Bros has a greater ownership stake, since they own 5% of the shares while Boris and Amber own 2% each. Berle and Means point out that with the growing size of corporations, ownership and management have been separated1 however companies are now so dominated by directors that their shareholders may be denied an effective say in the decisions of the Company. Justice Plowman in the case of Parke v Daily News Ltd2 held that the primary duty of the directors of a corporation is to their shareholders, superseding their duty to their employees. In the execution of his duties, it is inevitable that a Director will face a conflict of interests, but he is required to be self regulated by a strong code of ethics in his dealings. The Executive Director is the principal agent of the Company but under the law, has been held to be subject to the same standards of loyalty and good faith in his duties as that expected from trustees3 and therefore has a fiduciary duty to the shareholders4. However, the functions of directors originated as a flexible concept in the courts in the nineteenth and twentieth centuries. For example in the case of directors in Turquand v Marshall, the Court held that it â€Å"could not interfere with the discretion exercised by them†.5 In the case of Re Dunham and Co, the Court found that the director has been guilty of â€Å"considerable negligence† yet held that he had not breached his duty of diligence and care.6 However the duty of skill of a Director was best laid out by Romer J in the Re City Equitable Fire Insurance Co Ltd7 where he stated that while a Director was expected to exercise a certain level of skill and diligence that an ordinary reasonable man would apply under the circumstances, this did not mean that he was required to demonstrate a level of skill that was not commensurate with his experience. An effort to concentrating on a message in a communication is another strategy to overcoming the barrier and is likely increase amount of information that I capture (Beebe, Steven & Beebe Susan, 2011). Poor attitude is another barrier to my listening. I am often critical during communication and am quick to identify possible mistakes in a speaker’s presentations. I am equally judgmental over a speaker’s physical appearance and negative attitude shifts my attention from a speaker and associated message. Focusing on message content, rather than its structure and the speaker, is the possible strategy to overcoming the barrier because it can reduce my criticism and improve my ability capture information in communication through focusing on message details (Beebe, Steven & Beebe Susan,

Possible causes of destruction from space ( solar storms and possible Essay

Possible causes of destruction from space ( solar storms and possible impact from an asteroid or comet) that could lead to an apocalypse - Essay Example In that context, the longevity of earth is to a great extent a matter of coincidence and the spatial phenomenon like solar storms, and collision with asteroids or comets do have the potential to give way to an apocalypse. Before delving on the possible apocalyptic consequences of solar storms, one needs to delve into the scientific basis of these solar phenomenons. Simply speaking, a solar storm may refer to solar flare, Coronal Mass Ejection (CME) or a geomagnetic storm. The solar flares mostly get noticed as an abrupt brightening on the surface of the sun (Shipman, 1987, p. 266). This brightening of the solar surface is often interpreted as a massive release of energy of gargantuan proportions (Shipman, 1987, p. 266). The solar flares result into large scale ejections of atoms, ions and electrons from the sun’s corona into the space (Shipman, 1987, p. 266). These ejections of atomic and subatomic particles resulting from a solar flare do manage to reach the earth’s atmosphere. It is a possibility that the solar flares accompanied by a large scale energy release do have the potential to disrupt and even destroy the life on earth. It is a known fact that the sun’s energy does influence electromagnetic fields and the weather on earth. An unprecedented solar activity could someday drastically impact the human survival. They have the potential to drastically jeopardize the modern life by causing natural disasters, earthquakes, Tsuna mis, disrupting communication technologies, giving way to genetic mutations, jamming radio and satellite signals, and a plethora of other scientifically valid possibilities. It is a possibility that the very life nurturing potential of the sun could someday lead to an apocalypse. Coronal Mass Ejection (CME), simply put is a large scale burst of magnetic fields, solar wind and plasma from the sun’s corona into space (Ridpath, 1997, p.

Company Analysis - Research Paper Example In U.S., diversity was not seen as an integral part of planning previously. Diversity initiatives in most businesses processes lacked specificity, were poorly conceptualized and had no link to the business strategic plans. However, in the U.S business operations today, managers and leaders have realized that diversity planning must be aligned with the business operational decisions. This is to ensure that the businesses become successful (Richard SaÃŒ nchez, SaÃŒ nchez-Runde, and Luciara Nardon, Pg.18). Some of the U.S owned business organizations, most particularly the Macy’s company, have adopted a number of planning diversity practices in the business world. Such practices are illustratively discussed as follows. Diversity strategic plan is generally referred to as A-One Strategic Plan. The business builds and manages a workforce which is truly diverse. This is done by strategic planning of diversity through its core values of respect to the individual’s dignity, trust, integrity, credibility, personal renewal and continuous improvement. The business organizations use BWF (Balanced Workforce Force) strategy which is a strategy that all-encompassing. The strategy guides the organization in various situations and also covers the all the populations of employees. The strategy sets a 10-year annual target on goal plans for the business. Through the strategy, the managers are held accountable for upward employees’ mobility. BWF ensures that when layoffs occur, then the members of one group in the organization are not disproportionately affected in comparison with other member groups (Richard SaÃŒ nchez, SaÃŒ nchez-Runde, and Luciara Nardon, Pg.23). Another diversity strategy used by U.S Macy’s company business entails the continuous business improvement through the development and engagement of people. In this strategy, the business develops six

Philosophy ( professional and business ethics) Essay

Philosophy ( professional and business ethics) - Essay Example Most likely, Bob is not only self centered but also materialistic in nature causing him to care very little about the benefits or positive aspects of â€Å"being good† or acting morally. One aspect of acting morally is how one is perceived by others. If Bob begins to act in a manner that appears moral and considerate of those around him, he is more likely to be trusted and liked. If Bob is trusted and liked, he will easily be able to convince others to do business with him or even help him out in a time of need, in the spirit of neighborly kinship. As an amoral person, Bob must feel the consequences of his actions in that others around him are repelled by him and avoid a great deal of contact with him. If Bob can be convinced that changing his attitude and actions will yield favorable results for him personally, he will most likely be conducive to such changes. The concept of â€Å"ought† or â€Å"should† may in fact be erroneous to Bob as the idea of what one should or should not do are subjective and void of scientific reason. Additionally, Bob is coming from a place of primal desire or concern as opposed to an ideology that doing the right thing is something that one should do in order to be a good person versus the motivation to do the right thing in order to perpetuate one’s own best interests. In theory, the latter of the two motivations, seems to in essence make the notion of Bob’s doing the right thing amoral because of the motivation behind those actions. This however, may be the only form of morality that Bob is willing to embrace and since it benefits those around him for him to act morally as opposed to amorally, it can be argued that regardless of Bob’s motivation for his moral actions, the actions themselves are moral due to their results all the way across the board. Additionally, if Bob can be convinced that his conversion to moral actions versus continuing in amoral actions will preserve his

Probation Officers and Parole Officers Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1750 words

Probation Officers and Parole Officers - Essay Example They work towards making sure that they have made the law offenders to live productive and useful lives. Depending on the legal status, the law offender may be on parole or probation. Law offenders who are given probationary sentence might or might not have served jail term in the county jail. Once the offender is released, they are put on parole or probation depending on the record of their offence. Those that have served time in federal or state correctional facility are placed on parole when they are released. Conditions are given to both types of offenders when they are released and a parole or probation officer supervises them for a specified period of time (California Occupational Guide, 1). Probation officers are also known as community supervisors in some states as they supervise people on probation. Practically a probation officer supervises those convicted of violent crimes because probation is granted to those with substantial drug abuse history and criminal background (Ba nks, 165). Probation officers also offer training that includes rational behavior training – it focuses on the officers using rationality principles to persuade a probationer to change his/her attitudes and beliefs. The training influences hostile offenders to develop new behavior and beliefs, which probation officers reinforce. Parole officers usually perform the same duties as probation officers, the only difference being that while parole officers supervise the offenders who have been released from prison, probation officers wok with the offenders in the prison (Labor Dept (U S) Bureau of Labor Statistics, 238). Parole officers are usually in the unit of the youth authority, corrections and the federal department of justice accounts directly to their particular parole boards and their main task is supervising their clients. Before the discharge of an offender, parole officers prepare arrangement and recommendation for their client. Parole officers approve such services as housing, counseling, social activities, employment and education (California Occupational Guide, 3). On the other hand, probation officers are usually at the courts and they execute pre-sentence investigations and organize reports on their clients. They also aid their clients to go back to the free society. They also implement courts order, which may incorporate them to seize evidence, organize for drug testing, make arrests and carry out searches. Parole officers focus their effort on surveillance rather than rehabilitation though their systems are scarce. In urban areas, parole agents are commonly occupied in verifying curfews, drug testing and electric monitoring. Most parolees do not complete their parole supervision and they therefore end up going back to prisons, making the prisons full. The role of parole officers is to have all the legal authority carried out and to use firearms to search without constraint of the forth amendment, order arrest without probable cause and conf ine without bail (Banks, 165). According to Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS), when the probation and the parole officers are running in jail and prisons, they supervise the improvement of the inmates. They may assess the inmates by means of psychological and questionnaires tests. They work directly with other agencies or officers to develop release and parole plans. Their report discusses the record of the inmate and the probability of the inmate committing another crime. This

Orporate finance Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 4000 words

Orporate finance - Essay Example They also relaxed the stationarity assumptions of the random walk model. Fama (1970) continued the formalisation of the notion of "efficiency" in economic terms. He defined an efficient market as one "in which prices always 'fully reflect' available information". He also stated the conditions that would suffice for efficiency: "(i) there are no transactions costs in trading securities, (ii) all available information is costlessly available to all market participants, and (iii) all agree on the implications of current information for the current price and distributions of future prices of each security." Though adopting a statistical viewpoint, Fama (1970) differentiated information as "weak", "semi-strong" and "strong" forms. Later on, Rubinstein (1975), Beja (1976), Beaver (1981), and Latham (1986) adopted the framework of information economics where the definition is expressed in terms of the actions of individuals, as opposed to the actions of the market as defined by Fama (1970). Specifically, according to Beaver (1981): "A securities market is efficient with respect to a signal yt if and only if the configuration of security prices {Pjt} is the same as it would be in an otherwise identical economy (i.e. with an identical configuration of preferences and endowments) except that every individual receives yt as well as [that individual's own information]." Ray Ball (1994, p. 12-13) has a few criticisms of this school of thought. First, he argues that security prices in the "otherwise identical world" are ultimately priced using CAPM, which is implied by Fama's (1976) model. Secondly, he critiques that this model has confused properties of market with properties of information. Grossman (1976), Grossman and Stiglitz (1980) and Jordan (1983) associated "efficiency" with incentives to produce information. ACCOMPLISHMENTS First, the theory of stock market efficiency has developed prevalent respect for markets. Empirical evidence pointed to the efficiency of the stock markets, changing academic and even non-academic attitudes from suspicion to respect. Furthermore, the pioneer work on "efficiency" coincided with the surge in interest in and respect for markets in general among economists, and subsequently among politicians. The pioneer empirical work thus assumed importance and attracted interest beyond its direct impacts on stock markets. It led the global trend toward liberalising financial and other markets. The theory of stock market efficiency has also changed perceptions about how stock markets work. Before FFJR (1969)'s work, market reaction to information is viewed from a single point in chronological time to broad

Issues in Corporate finance group coursework Essay

Issues in Corporate finance group coursework - Essay Example This implies that managers of modern corporations are judged by the level of the financial strategies they undertake in improving the commercial interests of the investors. In measuring the effectiveness of the financial strategies undertaken by the management, financial reviews of asset utilisation, dividend payout, profitability, solvency level, and liquidity are undertaken. This range of financial measures helps in demonstrating the attractiveness of given corporations in enhancing the wealth maximization of the investors. This is because the measures help in predicting the potential of the various firms in surviving and remaining profitable in the market to increase the wealth of the investors. This paper reviews the financial strategies undertaken in four public traded companies across different markets globally. The four corporations reviewed include 21Vianet Group Incorporation from China, Microsoft Corporation from America, Pearson Corporation from United Kingdom and Abakanva gonmash from the Russian market. Furthermore, the paper has undertaken a fundamental analysis of the effectiveness of the financial strategies that have been undertaken by the management of the various corporations reviewed in the research project. In financing their asset acquisition, the various corporations employ diverse financing strategies as illustrated in the table below. The financing of the capital structure of the various corporations is made up of debt and equity. 2013 financial year results have been employed in calculating the debt and equity proportion of the four firms. The computations undertaken above implies majority of the corporations been analyzed employ equity in financing their asset acquisition. Only 21Vianet Group Incorporation employs debt financing more than equity as illustrated above. The four companies analyzed in this project research have undertaken significant

Nurture as Predictor of Happiness Essay Example for Free

Nurture as Predictor of Happiness Essay Nature versus Nurture as Predictor of Happiness Introduction            Happiness is one trait that is quite difficult to define and explain in human beings since different people have different things which they feel brings happiness to them which may be the complete opposite in other people (Phoenix, 2007, pp.104). One thing that may raise positive emotions in one individual may raise the opposite negative emotions in another person, hence making it quite difficult to have a clear cut definition of happiness. This tends to raise the question of what exactly always makes one happy and what are the relative importances of nature versus nurture as predictor of happiness in human beings. According to Phoenix (2007), â€Å"The behavior of people and other animals cannot be understood without taking account of the influence of their environments as well as their biology† (Phoenix, 2007, p.104). This means that happiness as part of human beings can be an influence of nature or nurture as the main predictors of the happiness of an individual. People who conducted research and came up with the various cause of happiness or the predictors of happiness must have experienced happiness at one point during their lifetime (Spoors, et al, 2007, pp.5).            This could simply indicate that every human being has the chance and opportunity of experiencing happiness in the life at one point. It is not quite easy to provide a straight forward definition of happiness which can be used in general at any time when there is reference to be made concerni8ng happiness. However, happiness may be said to be simply a form of mood which is affirmative and tends to cover a certain variety of emotions which may range from being delighted or even satisfied and conversely (Spoors, et al, 2007, pp.5). The above definition is totally opposed to the dichotomy, because the dichotomy is divided into two parts, for example, joy and sorrow, which are mutually exclusive and simultaneously create a whole. A proven example is a wedding the bride’s. Mother cries for daughter’s wedding, but simultaneously she has joy in it. This happiness is associated with feelings and emotions that people feel the depending on the situation in which they find themselves. In correlation with this, it can be accomplished of happiness and unhappiness cannot be viewed as opposite or mutually exclusive† (Spoors, et al, 2007, pp.5).            According to the assumptions of this concept, the pursuit of happiness, which you want each person is driven by human activities, and at the same time a source of satisfaction, fulfillment, and sometimes a sense of success. Therefore, the benefits associated with happiness include; better health, well-being, a lot greater activity level, willingness to help, and better relationships with others. People who are considered to be unhappy tend not to have the above mentioned emotions and they rarely display such emotions since they have not been able to experience happiness, or even the activities which causes happiness in human beings (Spoors, et al, 2007, pp.5).            When a question is asked about what makes hu8mna beings happy, most of the people would put main focus on the kind of thoughts they have, the kind of relationships that they have which can include close relationships and those that are not close. Furthermore, the question on what makes one happy will also make one to put focus on the brains since it is the one that generates the thoughts which in turn are closely related to the relationships that people have. The factors which act as the determinants of happiness have nature and to some extent have nurture. A healthy lifestyle and a happy brain this nurture issues, because in order for us to have a sense of wellbeing and happiness, our brains and bodies need a consistent source of food and oxygen† (Spoors at al., 2007, pp.26 9, material).            Therefore, it can be agreed that the main causes of happiness which have been suggested as most common include the relationships, the brain and the thoughts. Spoors (2007) observes that for human beings to have a sense of happiness or even well being, they must be able to live a healthy lifestyle as well as have constant supply of oxygen for the functioning of the body and the brain. Furthermore, â€Å"Many people on high protein, high fat, low carbohydrate diets have reported unusually high feelings of anger, tension and depression†, as observed by Spoors (2007). This means that for one to feel happy or have the sense of well being, they must have sufficient balanced diet and also constant supply of oxygen for a healthy body and a healthy brain.            From research conducted by Davidson, people inherit some genes which make one have a genetic predisposition of happiness to a certain level, although this does not mean that there are people who are born unhappy or gloom while others are born happy (Spoors, et al, pp.26-9). According to Shakespeare (2005 edition), â€Å"There is nothing either good or bad, but thinking makes it so†, meaning that what one thinks greatly contributes to them being happy or not. People tend to focus on negative aspects of life whenever they feel they have low spirits. This in turn affects their happiness and instead leaves them feeling much worse. The natural environment where one lives and the kind of nurture and experiences in life contributes to the way one thinks and influences the thoughts that one has, which in turn have been observed to influence the happiness that an individual will display.            This clearly indicates that the thoughts that people have play a major role in them being happy or unhappy. Ellen and Judy (1976) conducted a research and they found out that when people are able to control small issues that affect their life, they are in better position to enhance their happiness (Spoors et al, 2007, pp.53-7). From research which was conducted by Richard Layard (2005), it was observed that there are seven major factors which influence happiness in human beings but the main factor that was identified was close relationships. This same idea was supported by Robert Lane (2000, p. 6), who identified close relationships with families and friends to be great factor that increased human happiness (Spoors et al, 2007, pp.83-5). The views presented by the various researchers regarding the causes or the predictors of happiness are quite convincing considering the kind of research that they have presented is in-depth. Human beings do things because of how th ey feel and most of the actions are more influenced by nature and nurture, which in turn determines the happiness that human beings display. Therefore, it can be said that nature and nurture are both important determinants or the predictors of the happiness of human beings because they all have direct influence on the thoughts, the brain activities and the kind of relationships which people have during their lifetime. Comparing America’s Economy in the 1920s and the Current Economic Situation Essay Example for Free

Comparing America’s Economy in the 1920s and the Current Economic Situation Essay Few periods in America have influenced the current government structure, size, and economy rather than the â€Å"Roaring Twenties† and the â€Å"Great Depression†. At the beginning of the 1920s, the United States was converting from wartime to peace time economy at the time weapons for World War I were no longer useful. In this decade, America became the richest nation in the world and a culture of consumerism was born. People spent money for better roads, tourism, and holiday resorts. Real estates booms sent land prices soaring (DeLong, 1997). Looking at technology, it played a vital role in delivering the economic and cultural good times that most of America enjoyed during the 1920s. The automobile’s popularity, construction of roads and highways, poured fresh public funds into the economy. This resulted to tremendous economic prosperity. Technology enhanced communication with the first public station being established, KDKA, the year 1922 introduced the first movie made with sound- The Jazz singer. It is in this time that the United States became a modern middle-class economy of radios, consumer appliances, automobiles and suburbs. Mass production had made the United States the richest society the world had ever seen (DeLong, 1997). The economy today seems to negate the glory it received in the 1920s. According to Leonhardt (2010), it produced $ 15 trillion worth of goods and services in 2008 in estimates, making it the largest in the world. The US economy however has shown a downward trend since in 2007, it began to slow significantly mainly because of a real-estate slump and other financial problems that has led the economy into a recession. The recession continued up to early 2009, making it the longest one in decades. August 2009 came with some hope with the Federal Reserve Bank’s policy-making committee saying that they believed the recession was ending. The bank cautioned that the recovery would be slow and there was a possibility that unemployment was to remain high for another year. The year 2010 is seen as the year of severe economic contraction. According to Whitney (2010), reports in the financial media believe that the effects of ongoing credit contraction and the massive injection of the central bank liquidity have prevented the collapse of financial markets. A lot is still to be done in order to leverage households and stimulate the general economic activity. The financial crisis has stripped the economy $ 13 trillion in equity and Americans have grown gloomier about the economy and the nation’s direction over the past few months, although it shows signs of moving to recovery. The country is persistent with high unemployment with ordinary working people continuing to fight to keep their jobs and maintain their standard of living. This is a contrast on what was happening in the 1920s. US had transformed in less than a decade to become the richest Nation in the world. High pay of $5 a day showed the low unemployment rate that existed. Industries were booming with high profits and numerous companies opened their doors to start operations. The US might be the world’s leading economy, but the current unemployment rates, the number of businesses closing their doors as a result of inability to pay their debts and the constraints the government face in order to fully fund the budget requirements are overwhelming. The government, the Fed and the whole economy need to work towards alleviating bottlenecks that cause the economy harm. They need to uphold policies that will see to it that economy does not run to the stagflation condition of the 1970s.

Managing change at the organization Royal Mail

Managing change at the organization Royal Mail Managing change in organization is a very difficult task but it is one of the required processes to be done in critical situations (demand). I have taken the organization Royal mail as a part of explaining how the royal mail group managed the change in the organisation. A new culture has been involved may be called as the management style change system in Royal mail. The further reports which I am going to point out will tell the facts how the change in management is managed by the Royal mail group of organization. In order to develop the manager styles a development plan has been implemented and evaluated to find out the reports of the new change plan and see how it works. This is done in accordance with a need that manager should have a stable style of management ethics and work activities to be carried out while in the job and it is the duty of the management team to monitor in regular intervals of time to time A small introduction about Royal Mail Group: When it comes to post or parcel in the U. K nobody never forget the Royal mail. The royal mail is a parent company of the post office ltd United Kingdom. Royal mail is one of the important businesses in the U.K (postal business and parcel service all over the world). The royal mail takes a pride by producing a fact that they deliver millions of letters to appropriate address in the UK everyday thereby stabilizing the brand of Royal mail group. They employ around 200,000 people for their postal services. Task 1 The back ground to change is mainly because of the advancement of technologies, new methods implemented all over the organisations thereby demanding the present organisation to make a change. This will support the organisation to a greater extent. The motivation to change is done by looking at the current economy, the current organisational change, certain needs of the organisation and many more. Taking the organisation royal mail group, I would like to explain in detail why the organisation needed a change? The letter and packages business has been divided into several sections like Difficult regulations and policies Process dominated organisation Lagging of technology Difficult regulations and policies: The different regulations and policies of the royal mail group increase the customer choice and competition. Followed by this, it is very difficult for royal mail to accept the proposals made by the post office. This will affect their ability to do service to the customers at a single price. The variations are going to affect them to greater extent. This will increase the weakness of the company. As a post office group, lot of external pressures from government will also add up. Hence there was a question on how royal group will achieve stable profitability. This made a need in change of the organisation. Process dominated organisation: The process is totally dominated by the organisation thereby demanding the buercratic style of passive employees. This will cause major operation in-efficiencies and hence the motivation of work force will go down. The work force will then form a union and will lead a strike. This type of actions will de-value the name of the royal mail group. Hence we need the change in management here to be taken place in this organisation. Lagging of technology: In todays world, technology has increased to a greater extent. More advancement has created the organisations to change their way and style of process. Task 1 Evaluate the Strength and weakness of bureaucratic organisation These types of organisation are well -structured, have a clear process authority and control. They are well suited for stable environments. The technologies can be used in a routine way in this type of organisations. The process they use, the technologies they adopt are quite difficult thereby the job in these types of organisation is quite rigid. The organisational structure is designed in such a way that only the job which has to be done will be processed and done. Strengths: The rules and behaviour are combined and strict The unity in operation is implemented in the organisation even with change in personal circumstances. The orientation structure is impersonal Functional specialisation is the main source for labours functional division Allocation of task is very stable in this type of organisation Based upon the technical knowledge of the employee, the promotion is initiated or given The job recruitment s is done on merit basis Proper membership is a way to a proper career in this type of organisations The authority of any process is legally defined The qualifications for any process is tested properly before being implemented The allocation of limited discretion officers and also the organisation has legally based tenure Weakness: The weakness of the organisation is also defined here to understand the changes to be done in bureaucratic organisations. The organisation have a rule that the authority is not on the person it is dependent on the position. Lagging of empathy due to its strict rules and regulations Lagging of rationality Decision making being more inflexible Limits defined in decision making Due to high rules are regulations, the decision making is done slow In this organisation there is no priority or any urgency Thus these are the evaluation of strength and weakness of bureaucratic organisations. Task 1 Alternative forms of organisational development Organisational development is said to be a planned intervention. There are many interventions developed to solve different problems. The plans and actions are designed for the change in the organisation. The organisation will implement different interventions in order to achieve the success. The main goal of the organisational structure is to achieve the goal with the change. There are different types of interventions. Many interventions are combined to produce different action plans. The whole actions include organisational training, analysis, conflict management, team management and organisational re-structuring. Types of interventions: Human resources the e.g. includes team building, consultation and recruitment process Technically more structural also can be defined as techno structural e.g. The management called total quality management, the re structure process and the design of work /process Management human resource e.g. 1. Diversity in management 2. Performance management 3. Appraisal of employees and many more Strategy process E.g. culture change involvement, transformation of organisation, self designing and management in strategy The training sensitivity: The main purpose of this training is to understand the behaviours aspect of themselves and to understand the others perception. Improvement can be done by getting the feedback Interpersonal conflict can be reduced Improves people to be more open, increases listening skills and others Efficiency of organisation and productivity is improved The facilator gives proper discussion and feedback thereby the facilator plays a very important role It has got broader scope but it lacks the specific goal. Feedback survey: Analysis of data done by different methods Information sharing is very important From all level of organisation, data collection of different levels has been done The participants and agents haven been transferred for the data usage. The solutions to the problem are only developed by the participants and they are very important to the organisation. Consultation of process: The process should be consulted as to make the process more effective Implementation of a goal for improving a particular process Problem solving method is increased and it the participants have been involved in it More steps/ pressure had been taken and given in order to reduce the inter personal problems. The consultation process determines the process that needs improvement. Interventions with teams: To improve the performance of teams working in the organisation Diagnosis of problems is done very quickly The main aim is to maintain and improve organisational process and team relationships Both the team member and the top management sit for a meeting to decide upon the diagnosis of problems. The whole groups and also divided into sub groups to collect different information for the organisational development is done. The guidance is given towards the achievements of goal The meeting is conducted only in need and also in regular intervals. Plans are prepared and what actions have to be taken is carefully observed and plan is handed over to the representatives. A Meeting to improve team building ( formal one ): The group of team building meeting is conducted at a far place The issues are discussed and the members are assigned with different responsibilities Action plan is prepared and given to the members The team building meeting is initated by managers with a supervision of external consultant. Team building techniques: Accepting things in a positive way and self awareness is very important Through repression and confrontation, the negative feeling can be resolved. Physiotherapy is made to involve in focusing on the individuals. Analysis of Role by John Thomas: Focal role is the name of this role It is a process that defines the role of team members Suggestions by team leaders, expectations are achieved By making compromises, certain problems are resolved. Interventions Intergroup team building: Improves relationship between different team groups Communication flow is easy Communication gap is understood and exchange of information is done Unresolved problems are discussed to make it solve as soon as possible It helps to improve the interaction level within groups Thus these are the steps done for intergroup team building Interventions Structural: It is mainly done in order to bring the change in task and technological process. Technostrutural interventions is also an another name of this interventions. Task 2 Royal mail group limited defines always that the whole group is for their people. They strongly believe that only hard work will take forward for their change required. Royal mail feels that it needs to develop proper relationship with the people and the stake holders. They are more focussed on delivering the incentives properly to the stake holders will identify them to accept the change. They are dedicated in encouraging Leadership commitment for the safety issues To set safety standards by the line and role managers Recognition of management , consequences faced and accountabilities are the major source to encourage by the royal mail group To develop the systems for the stakeholders first a proper system plan should be done and processed. It is explained below as follows Appropriate plan (adaption) The managers are made to know about the change in management and they are introduced for the development programme. Aims at helping the managers with respect to the development plan with different activities available to them It helps them to communicate a bit further about the values of managers thereby supporting the business Expectation of managers are re-enforced Motivate the managers so that the managers will try to excite or surprise people Proving update on current business Making the benefits of the event my development is very important. All these plans will make the manager become more enthusiastic about the change in plan and will be happy to introduce and explain these systems to the stake holders. This type of process and systems will be done with appropriate meeting with the stake holders and the people who are involved in this process. Proper feedback for the change in management will be explained by the role and line managers in the meeting thereby the stakeholders can also know what exactly is happening and why the change in management is needed. Stake holders should also be know the fact that what will be the output of this outcome. This development plan how it will help the organisations and how far it will benefit the stake holder .these analysis can be done by conducting audit reports on this process by external and internal factors. By analysing this system, the key stake holders will be in a proper well known state about the change in management. Task 2 To evaluate these systems and to involve the key stake holders in the organisation there are certain strategies to be followed It is explained as follows When there is a change, it is very important for the organisation to inform all of its sub-ordinates. In other words, getting people involved and communication are the main factors in evaluating and execution of change. Communication is a very important tool acting here as it not only involves listening but also the person can take the feedback and present it to the organisation thereby making them to take actions on it. To accept the change, there is always a fear for people which can be destroyed when there is a proper communication. The people will really get encouraged especially the stake holders if they know everything about the change with a proper communication. The royal mail should not think stake holders as obstacles but they need to explain them for the need in change, make them involve in it and make responsible. Royal mail should make the stake holders understand that change in development is done in order to develop the managers, responsible for decision making and oth er operational managements. The moment of sustainability is very important when there is a change in management. The stake holders and the royal mail group ltd should discuss about the resources provided for the change and the support for the change thereby reducing the reduction of enthusiasm in stake holders. The royal mail team will have a team for change management which will deal with difficulties, develop the managers for the change. Under this change in management, the managers will be in a position to use the resources and move the business forward with clear vision. All these strategies have to be explained clearly to the royal mail stake holders. Thus these are the strategy to be followed in order to involve the stakeholder in the change in management. Task 3 The new model that can be appropriate to the royal mail group is as follows Development of skills and new competences model There are five key areas where the managers should be capable of taking authority and responsibility at work Inspiration of people: Inspiring is an attractive term used in the field of management. When people get inspired they are really feeling happy about what the management is telling about. Thus by inspiring skills, the management can easily manage the change in organisation. Action focused: The main focus of action should be with the customers and the service. The royal mail group has got lot of actions to be focused. Especially, in winter times the postal services or the parcel process may get delayed which might annoy the customers. The royal group ltd should focus on this particular action and appoint some new volunteers staff to avoid any delay in their process. This would make the customers feel more confident on royal mail groups. All these action focus should be done by the managers and that is how they can easily manage the change in management. Seeking improvements: The managers should be always in an enthusiastic mood to seek improvements in their field. As a manger, he /she should be able to learn new things for the change in management. Only if the mangers are in a proper learned way, then only we can sort out all the external problems. Continuous seeking improvement is one of the skills needed for the managers. Results should be driving: These areas are considered to be the more sensitive area. The results where the managers should deliver should drive the customers to a greater extent. Even with the changes in policies the organisation should be able to give better results and perform better services to the customers Ownership should be taken by managers: The managers should be able to take ownership on their own and do everything with respect to the organisation. Under this management plan, managers will be able to acquire good confidence and the right skills and make royal mail a nice place to work. Thus these are the different skills to be acquired for the managers and thus these plans will be a appropriate model for the royal mail group ltd. Task 3 Implementation of model process and their outcomes To implement a process model the organisation need proper plan and proper managerial skills to be performed. The steps to be done are as follows Plan for programme: The organisation communicating with the people about their development plan an introduction is given in first quarter of the year. In this first quarter meeting, the managers will come to know about their new management change plan and their benefits. Top level executives, senior managers and other top level people will be heading this change management programme. This plan is essential to implement the process model successfully. Over the year there will be many practical workshops, Action learning training, modules skills classes. This will be taking place including e-coaching. Workshops ( Practical ): This work-shop will be a class based one and this will emphasize more on the safety issues diversity, and about the rapid growth of business ideas. This plan would be very ideal in the change in management system. Modules: Modules will be skill based development programme. This might include interaction with others, communication development, giving feedback, decision making, working in a collaborative manner and assertiveness etc. Action learning: The managers will go and meet with groups of other managers for a formal meeting to review the reports by time to time. This will enable action learning programme to be more efficient for the managers. The report will make the organisation to develop their progress in the any field the organisation demands. This action learning programme is implemented nowadays much in the corporate culture as to fill the communication gap and also to monitor the progress at regular time intervals. Coaching: A different type of coaching is being introduced by the managers which are called as external coaching. External teachers have been taking into the organisation and they help the managers or the individuals to improve their performance. These types of coaching help the managers to tackle many unresolved problems. E-learning: Nowadays e-learning is a very powerful a popular method to study and analyse different things. The information can be assessed online at any time irrespective of any problems. The manager will study products which include business management, different type of risk analysis, attendance, performance appraisal and many more. Reporting and Accessing: The manager performance is monitored and reported every year with different mentor giving feedback They are assessed in factors like How the manager has developed their sub-ordinates How the managers has identified themselves about the need and change in management and their responsibilities. To develop the people there are many process and time involved. This factor is assessed to manager on how he takes this factor importantly. Outstanding performance given to the managers with promotional offers. Senior appraisals and capability of mangers is also monitored in this process After accessing all this factors, a report from the mentor is given to the organisation thereby explaining the benefits done and efficiency of the manager. Feedbacks: This is a very important factor which decides so many things in an organisation. An employee survey is conducted in regular intervals to find out how the employees are in with the organisation. The royal mail group ltd does this as a way to improve further and it is done on weekly basis. Thus this is how the model should be implemented when there is a change in management and the improvements have been mentioned in the above report that why these plans are executed and done with respect to the organisation. Conclusion: This case-study royal mail group ltd is was very innovative. It was expressing all about the changes needed in operation when there is a change in management and how the managers should take responsibility and fix themselves into the different implementation plans and learn different things. The report was also talks about why change is required in this economy- The strengths and weakness of the bureaucratic organisations. The report also defines about the stake holders analysis and how the systems should be developed and how stake holders should be involved in the change in organisation. Finally, I have researched about the different plans to be learnt and implemented and their process and outcomes for the change in management. Overall, royal mail is looking at the organisation structure which can yield profit to them when the change has happened. My management plans shows that the organisation is expecting all the staffs to work together in this competitive challenging market and a chieve the targets. This development programme will make the life easier for the managers as they learn all the necessary things. Thus managers will do a great job in the change of management. The group wide management programme will also provide a great way to tackle the problems of the work force and to attain the sustainability of the organisation. The main important thing in this whole project is the capability of managers as he stands here as the back bone for the change in organisation. Thus overall, the manager plays a vital role in changing the change in management and culture change in the organisation.

Mary Robinson and Her Many Masks Essay -- Poet Poem Actress Essays

Mary Robinson and Her Many Masks Mary Robinson’s public image as an actress and at times transgressive female are inseparable from her identity as an author and poet. Having begun her public life as an actress, Robinson remained keenly conscious of the power of audience. She intentionally re-scripted her own past, using her lurid fame to launch her successful writing career. Written at the end of her life, The Haunted Beach represents a culmination of efforts to make a serious impact on the world of poetry. Among other daring moves, Robinson's poem effectively engages with a known poet, in its recognizable similarities to Coleridge's Rime, and makes a social commentary on a murder she witnessed. The poem’s vaguely defined relationship with audience mirrors Robinson’s own multiplicity in voice. Just as The Haunted Beach is told by an unidentified observer, ultimately Robinson’s own identity remains unknowable; at best she is a fusion of her many pseudonyms, stage characters, and ideas pres ented in her written works. Much has been written on Robinson’s complicated relationship with the public, as well as her intriguing rapport with contemporary artists such as Coleridge and Wordsworth. In considering â€Å"The Haunted Beach,† one of the last poems Robinson wrote before her death, one must pay with attention to her complex path to artist and public figure; both the poem’s conception and its reception are affected by her public persona and her artistic and social connections. Robinson crafted multiple identities as actress, author and poet, all of which play into her constantly developing poetic project. Poetry became for Robinson not only a forum for earning income and salvaging her damaged reputation, but also a form of self-expre... ....clayfox.com/ashessparks/reports/miles.html>> Feldman, Paula R, Ed. The Giver Vs. Brave New World :: essays research papers

The Giver by Lois Lowry and Brave New World by Aldous Huxley have many similarities. They both take place in futuristic utopias where happiness is the overall goal. Jonas and Bernard, the major characters in the novels, are both restless individuals who want change. Despite the close similarities, there are many contrasts in the two novels. The childhood, family, and professions arrangements are differently portrayed in the similar novels The Giver and Brave New World. The similarities in the two novels are few despite of the similar concept the novels have. Both deal with utopias where everyone is happy. They both have individuals wanting to change the way society operates. Every individual in the novel is genetically engineered and conditioned to like what he or she has and be happy. Emotions and feelings aren’t supposed to exist in either utopia. Though the utopia in Brave New World is more technologically advanced than the one in The Giver, they are both more advanced than today’s technology. Growing up is very different in the two novels. In The Giver, each child grows up in a similar way to the way today. They each grow up in a family unit, go to school with children their age, and play child games like today’s. They grow to live a normal child until they reach the age of twelve, where they begin training for their assigned profession. In Brave New World, the children don’t experience childhood. After they are born in a lab, they are all conditioned what to like and what to hate according to their social placing. The children entertain themselves by playing very complex games that require much equipment and also by sexual recreation. The two novels’ family unit system is very different from each other. The family structure in The Giver is somewhat similar to ours today. The families consist of parents and children but each family unit is limited. A unit is restricted to two adult parents, one male child, and one female child. Brave New World has no family structure. A motto included in the novel states, â€Å"everyone belongs to everyone else†. Every adult lives alone in his or her own apartment with no spouse but with many sexual partners. Professions were assigned in both novels, but in a different manner. When children turned twelve years old in The Giver, they began training for the professions they were assigned.

Synchronous and Asynchronous Mode :: essays research papers

Synchronous and Asynchronous mode:   Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  In telecommunication signaling within a network or between networks, synchronous signals are those that occur at the same clock rate when all clocks are based on a single reference clock. Synchronous communication requires that each end of an exchange of communication respond in turn without initiating a new communication.   Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  An asynchronous signal is one that is transmitted at a different clock rate than another signal. Asynchronous operation also means that a process operates independently of other processes, whereas synchronous operation means that the process runs only as a result of some other process being completed or handing off operation. Analog and Digital: Analog communication employs continuous transmission of an electromagnetic wave form that varies in frequency and amplitude. A digital communication system uses discontinuous transmission that may vary in frequency, amplitude and/or phase to represent binary data. Simplex and Duplex:   Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  A communications network can provide many types of service. The most basic type of service is known as simplex. This service provides one-way communication. Examples of this type of service are TV distribution, and the transmission of burglar alarm messages.   Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Most networks transfer data in two directions and are known as duplex communications links. Duplex links are classified as either full duplex or half duplex (also known as two ways alternate), depending upon whether both local and remote nodes may simultaneously transmit, or whether one must wait for the other to finish before starting transmission. Serial and Parallel Transmission:   Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  In telecommunication, serial transmission is the sequential transmission of the signal elements of a group representing a character or other entity of data. The characters are transmitted in a sequence over a single line, rather than simultaneously over two or more lines, as in parallel transmission. The sequential elements may be transmitted with or without interruption. A parallel link transmits several streams of data (representing particular bits of a stream of bytes) along multiple channels (wires, printed circuit tracks, optical fibres, etc.). Serial Line Internet Protocol (SLIP)and Point-to-Point Protocol (PPP):   Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  SLIP and PPP are two communication protocols which allow a computer connected to a server via a serial line (such as a modem) to become an actual node on the internet. This allows you to run network applications on your home computer directly. While SLIP and PPP are largely similar, there are some key differences. PPP is a newer protocol, better designed, and more acceptable to the sort of people who like to standardize protocol specifications.

Criminal justice Essay

The reason I chose Serpico is because I thought this book would talk about a cop trying to do the right thing, which was to change the crooked system that allowed corruption. This non-fiction talks about the criminality that takes place in this book. For example Serpico was plainclothesmen which was patrolmen working out of uniform on special assignments like narcotics, prostitution, and gambling, so it was a lot of opportunities and temptation for graft to occur. This book proves the point that people in power always abuses it because the plainclothesmen were just out to get a profit from illegal activities that you were hired to prevent. The topic this book expounds on is about Brooklyn born, Italian cop with long hair, scruffy beard and a taste for opera and ballet music, name Frank Serpico. He was a man that couldn’t be hushed nor brought with felonious money, so he decided to change this nefarious system called the police force, that enable the law enforcement to flourish off of bribery, graft, and comprise. After Serpico made this decision to try and change the fraud happening in law enforcement, he had gained a lot of enemies rather than allies due to the reputation he garnered. For example during a drug raid his fellow partner was reluctant to come to his aid, so he was shot in the face. From then on, Serpico was life was put into danger by his fellow colleagues. Police Officers were baffled and confused on why Serpico broke an unwritten code that meant that cops can’t turn in other cops. Apparently Serpico didn’t care about that code because his main concentration was advancing to detective rank and being a good example of cop, so his peers can learn from it. Police Corruption is the abuse of police authority for the gain. The connection it has to the criminal law is corruption undermines the rule of law, good governance, tarnishes the public image of the law enforcement, protects criminal activity like drug dealing or prostitution, and soon forfeits the community trust in various institutions. The reason why police corruption is so easily to get involve in is because ineffectual laws prevailing moral values promote corruption because they provide criminal organizations with a financial curiosity in damaging law enforcement. I believe the only way to fight police corruption is to wrestle with the decriminalization issue, which involves removing the criminal label giving to victimless crimes by regulating them and preventing them. It’s very hard to prosecute a police officer for corruptions because most prosecutors think why â€Å"bite the hand that feeds you. Serpico didn’t care about that idea because he just wanted to do the right thing no matter what it took or cost which was almost his life. Frank Serpico was a heroic man that gambled with his life just to stop corruption that was going on in the New York’s police department. Serpico went through a lot of distrust and harassment from his various police officers just to call attention to this ceaseless problem. Then Serpico decided to take drastic measures by taking his story to New York Times editors. This act forced Mayor Lindsay to appoint a special, discrete commission to investigate these Serpico allegations. I admired Serpico for putting up with death threats from several police officers and people that were setting him up like in that drug raid. It took Serpico 5 years for him to bring this corruption to the public’s attention. Through those 5 years Serpico had faced many death threats and vexation that prevented him from achieving his goal of becoming a detective. The only thing that Serpico did that I found was obnoxious, was when he was basically envious of William Phillip who was undercover agent for the Knapp Commission and he really was doing the same thing Serpico was doing over the years. The definition of a hero is Frank Serpico because of the heroic deed he had attained, that took a great deal of courage and dedication. Most police officers wouldn’t have the guts and determination to be able to endure the hardship Serpico had went through in order to end the corruption in the New York Police department. Frank Serpico was remembered for that significant feat he accomplished because most police officers had just fallen in the arms of unscrupulous and Serpico was the first officer to not fall into misconduct while faced with many tempting opportunities as a plainclothesmen. Why couldn’t there be more police officers like Frank Serpico? Why did police officers allow that criminality to happen or why did police officers partake in that criminality? At least Frank Serpico had made a huge step into the right direction of transformation. The officers in the New York Police department had just gone with the flow before Serpico came around, as if corruption was a part of their job. If Frank Serpico didn’t speak up about the corruption, would it have continued to occur as if nothing was illicit? I’m glad that I chose this book because it taught me that one person can have a huge impact on an issue that he or she feels strongly about. I thought Serpico would have become a replica of those crooked cops. Who would of thought Serpico would be the police officer to deny graft, bribery and other criminal benefits? That’s the most appealing information because who would chose justice over money? Apparently Frank Serpico thought that corruption wasn’t going to get him to a detective rank. He believed the only way was to endeavor. A quote from the book was â€Å"the problem is that the atmosphere doesn’t yet exist in which an honest police officer can act without fear of ridicule or reprisal from fellow officers. † This quote shows that Serpico had an excellent idea on how to prevent what he endure for 5 interminable years. No one shouldn’t have to feel like they under that much pressure when bringing about information regarding a system that allowed corruption to flow like a pipe. The worst thing about the trial was that the executive officers were not there, so the real issue of corruption wouldn’t be solved. While feeling so much pressure, Serpico still had to worry about his life being in danger because he testifies. A person shouldn’t have to go thru different predicaments just to serve justice and be an example to the police force. Even though police officers got fired and the commissioner got replaced, I still don’t think that was equivalent to the price Serpico partially paid which was his life. The length it took for Serpico allegations to get some public attention was the least appealing because I didn’t understand why no one understood the severity of fraudulence in the New York Police department. That’s how you can tell that Serpico was very determined to be different and stand by his morals, because it took 5 years before justice could be served in a trial. I don’t think you can have that much patience unless you were very dedicated to the issue at hand. This book was a good choice because I thought after all those death threats and fatal gun wound in his head that nearly cost him his life, Serpico would just go along with the corruption. Even after the trial during Serpico sick leave and recovery from his head wound, he was still debating on his future as a op. I wonder was the Medal of Honor he received was the real reason why he had retired? Serpico really had a huge amount of ambition towards being a detective, so what happened? In the book Serpico saids â€Å"sensing the underlying hatred of police establishment toward him after what he had done,† to me this meant that Serpico was worried about how the police force would feel if he had came back aft er the critical actions he done that had repercussions.

Causes of the American Revolution Essay

Causes of the American Revolution Essay

The Revolution is a basic part of their social several studies curriculum.are some of the starters to the American Revolution. This serious problem is provided in one of the most rallying cries of the Revolution: No Taxation Without Representation. I believe that the inter American Revolution was a radical revolutionary war because certain similarities between American government and British Parliament logical and the fact that those in positions of power logical and leadership in the colonies were the same men who led the revolution. Events like the Boston green Tea Party were acts of civil disobedience. The American Revolution was mostly as a result of matters.Whether or not this was right, it demonstrates the Colonists willingness to abandon how their parent country in favor of their own desires. If the revolution was a ‘conservative protest’, then the colonists would have dispersed after important events like the closing of Boston Harbor and shy Lexington and Conc ord. Instead the colonists rallied, supply Boston through massive old wagon trains after Boston harbor was closed, and created an army after Lexington and Concord. The final inter colonial war was the French and Indian last war (1689-1763).

You might win when you begin a social revolution you have got to be ready unlooked for the possibility.† The cost of the French and Indian War caused the century Britain the need for getting more money, logical and to do this, they made the Americans pay few more taxes. This lead to the rebellion logical and revolution of America. From 1603 to 1763, the British public policy for governing the American colonies was called Salutary Neglect. Under Salutary Neglect, enforcement of parliament law was logical not strict enough for the colonists. It had been due to political personal social and financial issues.† In 1764, Parliament passed an the Sugar logical and Molasses act. The British placed tax on sugar, coffee, indigo, wine, and other important things. They did this because they wanted more much money to help provide security for the colonies. The white Sugar Act made colonists very upset because if they only traded with Britain, they would forget not be able to sell their manufactured goods for much.
